Metropolic Seam

In collaboration with Ebru Güner
“We encourage stories to be told and connections to be made and ideas to form.”
WHAT
‘Metropolic Seam’ is a social forum to encourage the exchange and the trade of ideas.
WHY
The aim is to encourage stories to be told, connections to be made and ideas to be formed.
HOW
By creating a temporary spatial intervention to provide a space with prompts to circulate ideas on how we as a community can unite, empower and stimulate the exchange between local providers and businesses.
‘Metropolic Seam’ is an empowerment initiative, created to encourage and inspire connections and the exchange of ideas between local businesses and residents of the city of Vienna. The chosen location for this spatial intervention is strongly linked to Vienna’s trade history. ‘Metropolic Seam’ will be encapsulating the space around the Gänsemädchenbrunnen, which is located at the Rahlstiege in the 6th district. The original placement of this monument was located at the Geflügelmarkt in 1866, a place of barter, dialogue and sharing. With this project and the historical relevance in locality, we are trying to encourage the sharing of stories and creating connections through this.
The definition of the name ‘Metropolic Seam’ stems from Metropolitan, meaning ‘an urban area regarded as the centre of a specific activity’ and seam, a relationship between two, a link, specifically in textile. This chosen language for the name communicates what we are trying to achieve with this spatial intervention, an analogue space with digital stories stimulating a dialog between small businesses and residents, in the form of sharing their stories.
