PiLA embodies the philosophy of stacking heritage and innovation to transform waste into new life.
The objects are created through recyclable, high-fired ceramic bodies from waste streams including broken porcelain tableware, support plates, and other discarded ceramics. Through innovative processing, these materials are reused without downcycling, forming a strong, functional base that transforms industrial refuse into a valuable new raw material. Traditional ceramic-making techniques are combined with experimental methods, preserving heritage knowledge while driving sustainable innovation.
The surface finish draws on the craft tradition of wood ash glazing, using a base made from natural, discarded materials such as wood ash, sea shells, recycled glass, and locally sourced clay. The result is a holistic circular design: waste reborn as both body and surface, united by craft heritage and material innovation.
